Professor Lami Angela Nnamonu is a distinguished project management professional, academic, and capacity development leader with a strong record of delivering high-impact programs across Nigeria. As the Vice President, Professional Development and Events of the PMI Nigeria Chapter, she serves on the Board of Directors, providing strategic leadership for the design and delivery of innovative learning and growth initiatives and member engagement platforms.
Lami brings on board a rare combination of profound professional experience, institutional leadership, and a commitment to excellence. A certified Project Management Professional (PMP), member of the global Project Professionals Network (PPN) and International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA), Prof. Nnamonu possesses extensive practical experience in managing complex, multi-stakeholder development projects and high-performing teams. She has been physically participating in the annual Project Control Summit in USA since 2024. A Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) certified procurement professional, she is Project Manager for both phases of the World Bank-supported Sustainable Procurement, Environmental and Social Standards Enhancement (SPESSE) Project – including the Original Financing and Additional Financing components – at the Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University Makurdi (formerly Federal University of Agriculture Makurdi). In this role, she successfully coordinates and pioneers delivery of capacity-building programs across the six states of Nigeria’s North Central geo-political zone and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, strengthening competencies in procurement management, environmental sustainability, and sustainable social development.
A trail-blazer and champion of change, inaugurated Prof. Nnamonu is a First-Class Chemistry Education graduate of the University of Jos and the first Professor of Agrochemistry in Nigeria, with research interests in eco-friendly pest control alternatives, environmental sustainability and responsible resource management. A Commonwealth scholar and two-time Schlumberger Foundation Faculty for the Future Fellow, Research Fellow at Newcastle University and Durham University United Kingdom, she’s Founder and President of the Network for Young Girls in Future Technology and Science (GIFTS) Initiative, mentoring girls into tertiary and postgraduate Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) studies and careers. Her professional trajectory reflects a deep passion for advancing knowledge, building people and systems, encouraging girls and women into STEM disciplines and careers, and promoting sustainable development through both science and project management practice.
In her role at PMI Nigeria, she is focused on building a dynamic and future-ready professional development ecosystem through uncommon initiatives, certification support programs, and industry-focused events. She is particularly passionate about experiential learning, bridging the gap between theory and practice, and empowering young professionals and women in project management.
